veterans

Veteran G.I. Bill Benefits – Flight Training

Prestige Aviation Academy is proud to be an approved VA GI Bill flight school for use of United States Department of Veterans Affairs military education benefits.

Prior to beginning pilot training, veterans must ensure that they are enrolled in one of the following chapters in order to be eligible:

  • Chapter 30 – Montgomery GI Bill Active Duty
  • Chapter 33 – Post-9/11
  • Chapter 1607 – Reserve Educational Assistance Program
  • Chapter 1606 – Montgomery GI Bill Selected Reserve

To what flight training programs can my G.I. Bill benefits be applied?

GI Bill benefits can be used for the following Part 141 flight training courses for veterans pursuing a career as a professional pilot:

  • Instrument Rating
  • Commercial Single-Engine or Commercial Multi-Engine
  • Single or Multi-Engine Add-on
  • Certified Flight Instructor – Initial (CFI-A)
  • Certified Flight Instructor – Instrument (CFII)
  • Certified Flight Instructor – Multi-Engine (MEI)
GI Bill benefits may not be used for any portion of training for the Private Pilot Certificate, because obtaining that certification alone does not allow pilots to earn money. The VA is very clear that the GI Bill benefits are only to be utilized in support of education and training that leads to a paying job.

G.I. Bill Flight Training Eligibility and VA Flight Training Reimbursement

The amount veterans will save in out-of-pocket costs is based on the particular percent of eligibility, which means, ideally, you want to find schools that accept the GI Bill and offer additional discounts and perks.

If you’re not sure about your particular percent of eligibility for your military education benefits, contact your regional VA office.

Chapter 30 and 1606: 60% of the total approved charges for the course

Chapter 1607: Between 24 – 48% of the total approved charges for the course

Chapter 33: $12,554.54 per academic year cap regardless of year course is completed

These are the latest rate updates, but this information can change without advance notice. At Prestige Aviation Academy, our Admissions staff will assist you in mapping out a GI Bill flight training plan to maximize these benefits and help you achieve your professional pilot career goals.

foreign license verification

Foreign Pilot License Verification

Many international students who have already had earned a pilot license in their respective countries before transferring to Prestige Aviation Academy to continue their training as a commercial pilot. These students need to complete a Verification of Authenticity of Foreign License and Medical Certification Form as required by the FAA in order to continue training at Prestige Aviation Academy.

Regardless of the amount of training received outside of the U.S., students may only convert to the maximum of FAA Private Pilot. The foreign license verification process can take up to 90 days, so students need to plan ahead, be proactive, and submit the proper documentation before they arrive at Prestige Aviation Academy.

Note: If you have any restrictions on your license, please let Admissions know immediately, prior to beginning the foreign pilot license verification process.

  • Submit Verification Form & Foreign Documents to FAA
  • Complete FAA Form 8060-71 (Verification of Authenticity of Foreign License and Medical Certification Form)
  • Make enlarged copy of Private Pilot License
  • Send Form & Documents to FAA

Mail to:

Dept. of Transportation/FAA
Airmen Certification Branch
PO Box 25504
Oklahoma City, OK 73125-0082

-OR-

eMail the signed application package to:

info@prestigeaviationgroup.com

NOTE: If any of the documents are illegible, the FAA will stop the process and contact the student via email for re-submission of clear documents within 30 days. If the student does not respond, the request for foreign license conversion is cancelled.

Confirm Verification Request with Your Civil Aviation Authority Call your Country Civil Aviation division to make sure the request has been received and processed. If your country does not respond to FAA’s request for verification, the FAA will resend request every 30 days, on 4 times. If the verification is not completed, the request will be cancelled.

Receive Letter of Authenticity & Obtain FAA Medical Certificate If approved, the student will receive the Letter of Authenticity from the FAA that authorizes them to get the temporary certificate. Student must then pass a medical examination that qualifies them to receive their FAA Medical Certificate once they arrive here in the U.S.

Arrive at Prestige Aviation Academy & Complete IACRA Enrollment Register on IACRA using the exact name listed of the Letter of Authenticity, which should match your passport. Note: If your foreign medical is expired, or the name listed on the Letter of Authenticity does not match your passport, DO NOT use IACRA. You need to use ACRA, which is a program on the hard drive located in the examiner test room. Fill-out all 6 steps on IACRA On Step 6, “Solo” means sole occupant of aircraft, and “PIC” means solo plus all other PIC time.

Receive U.S. Pilot Certificate Students may pick up the temporary certificate for no charge at the Orlando MCO FSDO. Alternatively, students may also meet with Joseph to schedule for an approved Designated Examiner (DE) to come directly to school and create the temporary certificate ($150.00 dollar fee, cash only). Regardless of their choice, students must present the following documents:
  • IACRA Enrollment
  • FAA Verification Letter of Authenticity
  • 2 copies of Passport
  • 2 copies of Foreign Pilot License
  • 2 copies of FAA Medical Certificate
  • Pilot Logbook

The Letter of Authenticity is only valid for 6 months

If the student has to stay longer than 6 months, they must re-apply 2 months before it expires. Many students forget this information and are unable to take their check ride because their Letter of Authenticity has expired. If it becomes necessary to re-apply for the Letter of Authenticity, the same process must be repeated, however we find that it is quicker the second time around.

To contact the FAA Airmen Certification Information & Assistance directly for foreign pilot license verification process, students may call: +1405-954-3261.
